Course Overview:
A study of policing in U.S. society. Interaction with groups and institutions. The overall objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the role of the police in American society. The source will focus on the sociological study of policing, not professional training to become a police office. Students will gain a better understanding of the history of the police, their role in American society and in the American system of criminal justice. In addition, students will discuss and critique important issues and trends in modern policing.
