BGS Admissions Criteria

  1. Graduated from high school at least four (4) years ago and at least 22 years old
  2. Cumulative GPA of 2.2 on all previous college work
  3. U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  4. Not enrolled in another school or college at the University of Miami
  5. Student must be pursuing first undergraduate degree
  6. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae via application system

Students admitted and enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies may not transfer into any other undergraduate University of Miami school or college. The BGS program is intended for students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree.


Step 1: Speak to an Enrollment Advisor

Contact an enrollment advisor by calling (305) 284-4000 and select option 2.

Our enrollment advisors will go over the program requirements, admissions criteria, and will assist you in setting up an appointment with an academic advisor for an informal transcript analysis.

Step 2: Apply Online and Submit the $75.00 Non-Refundable Application Fee

  1. Apply now through the Online Application
  2. Employees/Dependents must fill out the Employment/Dependent Verification Form before applying.
    • You will receive an email with further instructions on how to complete the BGS Application
    • HR Education Benefit

Please note that submitting your application fee does not guarantee acceptance into the BGS program. Your complete application will be reviewed when all application materials and application fee are received by the BGS office. The admission decision will be sent by mail from the University of Miami, Office of Admission.

Step 3: Request previous transcripts

Request that official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities are sent to the Office of Admission. Official transcripts must come directly from the institution. Students who are attending college for the first time (or who have fewer than 30 college credits) should provide an official high school transcript or copy of GED scores. Josef Silny International Education Consultant - Transcript Evaluator

All applicants who have attended any college or university outside the United States must have official transcript(s) for each college or university evaluated by Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., International Education Consultant. For detailed instructions on how to submit official transcript(s) to request a course-by-course evaluation and grade point average (GPA) calculation visit here .

Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., International Education Consultant will send the evaluation report and copy of all the official documents used in the evaluation directly to the University of Miami Office of Undergraduate Admission. Evaluations will only be accepted when sent directly to us by Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., International Education Consultants. This is require before the Admissions Committee can review the application. 

Any documents received by the University will become the property of the university and will not be returned to the applicant or sent to a third party including  Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., International Education Consultant.

Financial Assistance

If you are applying for financial assistance you should contact the Office of Financial Assistance at (305) 284-5212. Students who wish to apply for financial assistance must first be accepted as a degree-seeking student. If you are interested in utilizing your company's tuition reimbursement benefits contact our Office of Student Account Services at (305) 284-6430.
