Students with diverse personal and/or professional interests or goals can design a curriculum that makes sense to them and furthers their professional growth and development
far more than a standard, one-size-fits-all program.
Step 1: Complete the Requirements
Prior to submitting or starting your Area of Concentration, students will need to meet the following three requirements:
- Complete all math requirements:
- MTH 101 - College Algebra
- Students who have not completed a college math course within the last academic year will be required to take the ALEKS Math Placement or complete MTH 099 (Intermediate Algebra) with a "C" or better prior to registering for this course.
- MTH 113 - Finite Math
- Complete the foreign language requirement
- Students are required to complete at least one course at a 200-level or above.
- Complete WRS 333 - Writing the Research Paper
- Students must earn a "C" or better in this course.
Step 2: Preparing for Submission
You will need to have the following items prepared in order to submit your proposed AOC.
- A Curriculum List which includes 10 courses with 5 alternates, you will need to include any prerequisite courses as well.
- Proposed Area of Concentration Title (Identify the name of your area of concentration that encompasses the focus of your course work from your curriculum list).
- The Declaration of Goals.
- Three goals: Personal, Educational and Professional that your proposed Area of Concentration and/or the BGS degree will support in your future. Each should be a minimum of 250 words per goal.
Step 3: Submitting the Area of Concentration
Once you have all the items completed in Steps 1 and 2 you are ready to submit your proposal for review at the link below.
